(Best Syndication News) Vicks® VapoRub® is not recommended for children under two years of age, but according to researchers at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine, under nose treatment may not be safe for adults. Vicks® VapoRub® (VVR) may actually stimulate mucus production and inflame the airways making it harder to breathe.
Bruce K. Rubin, MD, FCCP, the study’s lead author from the Department of Pediatrics at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, Winston Salem, NC first became concerned when an 18 month child was admitted to the hospital after VVR was placed right below the nose. The child developed severe respiratory distress. “Infants and young children have airways that are much narrower than those of adults, so any increase in mucus or inflammation can narrow them more severely,” Rubin said.
